Are you exploring possibilities and options for re-inventing your style?

You’ve come to the right place!

If you’ve landed on my site, that means you are weary of such terms as “regular,” “normal,” “average,” and “usual”—UGH! what insipid words!!

Layering is a way of distinguishing yourself as who you are!

It means snubbing the clothing manufacturing giants and doing it your way! …creating your very own style. You will never see another woman in your outfits again!

To some, layering means wearing a sweater over a blouse, or, adding a vest or scarf.

Where is the creativity in fashion?!

My trek along the pathway to STYLE had a dubious beginning: Lol. As a teenager, I was strictly a jeans-and-T-shirt kind of girl. Gradually,  I got bolder, more imaginative and learned my colors.

I finally got to a point in life when I really didn’t care what people thought about how I dressed.

At last, I found my style—before I even knew the word “Bohemian.” Then, I hatched this blog/ website.

You see the results of my kind of layering, above.

So…How Does One Layer Successfully?

In my opinion…
  • Choose colors that match, coordinate, blend
  • Mixing prints, plaids, stripes, tie-dye is okay, as long as they share one or more common colors.
  • Pick pieces that are different lengths: a long top under a shorter one with a vest on top of that; a maxi skirt with a medium-length skirt over that one, and a short one over that. It gives the impression of a tiered or multi-layered skirt. But—in only wearing them together—you have more options of putting things together, i.e. more outfits!
  • Wear two vests—one buttoned closed, the other, open.

  • I like mixing floral prints…even if the colors aren’t the same: It looks like a flower garden!
  • Feminine-looking men’s ties can be found. I like wearing ties if the outfit welcomes it. I prefer to wear the knot loose and lower than usually seen on a man. Even wear it without a collar!

  1. I love this style! I love the skirts with different layers and so fun when sewing it all together! so glad Boho is not gone. 🙂

    1. Hey Gin!

I’m so glad to hear from you again!! My heart beats faster when I see I have comments!! Lol. It assures me that I’m not doing this in vain!! <3 It excites me to know that SOMEONE "out there" is getting SOMETHING out of my blog!! <3

I'm SO glad, too, that you are looking around my site!! THANK YOU!!!!! I've put many, MANY hours into this blog for over three years. 🙂 All of my content is evergreen and is always "ripe." 😀

I will ever love the Bohemian style, of which "unconventional" is my favorite definition. That includes many things... I constantly want to emphasize that Bohemianism (un-conventionalism) is not a style of set rules of "do this or that" to accomplish this style, No, it's what YOU want it to be...NO RULES! It's CREATING YOUR OWN STYLE, that bucks against conventional, "normal," boring "sameness!!!" God created each one of us as an individual - so, WHY do we want to ALL look the SAME!!! EACH WOMAN IS DIFFERENT. So, let each woman exhibit her "differentness!!" ...her uniqueness!!!

Even if the "Bohemian look" goes out of style in the fashion scene, it won't for me, because I will continue to CREATE MY OWN STYLE regardless of what is "in." It was a change of life for me. It has evolved over decades of my life. I started dressing differently long before I even heard the word Bohemian. Bohemianism means being independent, REBELLING AGAINST WHAT IS COMMON, ordinary, what is accepted as the way one should dress.

Let us take back our own decision-making ability, not be governed by what the fashion industry tells us to wear!!

I hope ALL of you will STEP AWAY FROM THE COMFORT ZONE of "fitting in," and be your OWN DESIGNER!!! It's MORE FUN that way!!! 😀

P.S. You don't necessarily have to SEW your layers together; you can simply WEAR them together!

      Blessing to you Gin,
      Cindy

  2. I am definitely into doing my own thing. I love all your ideas. I can’t wait to explore and find my style.

    1. Hey Karen! Thank you so much for your comment! Yes, doing your own thing is definitely more fun than dressing like everybody else.

As you find your style, be sure that you’re aware of your “season” …what colors are best for your skin, eyes and hair coloring. See http://diybohemian.com/what-is-seasonal-color-analysis-also-determining-your-seasonal-color-analysis/

Also, make sure your clothing colors are right with each other, especially when mixing prints… https://diybohemian.com/mixing-prints/

You can mix styles. I remember a girl I knew briefly whom I would consider possibly the first bohemian dresser that I came across personally: She had pink hair. 😀 I remember an outfit she wore of which the top was one style, and the bottom, another, but the color matching was harmonious so it worked!

Have fun and be creative, but, as you play dress-up, be sure to take a look at all sides in a full-length mirror before you go out. Lol. 😀

      Blessings and keep finding yourself.
      Cindy
