To paraphrase a quotable quote* : I love it when an outfit comes together!
I get a big kick out of inventing a look from unrelated odds n ends!
I was made with a built-in need to create! 🙂
………………………………………
Most of the clothes I see in stores don’t do a thing for me. I think to myself, I like my stuff way better than this! And, I spend way less, too! …to dress way cuter! 😀
Don’t let clothing manufacturers impose their will on you.
Make your own look, by…
- thrifting the unusual,
- making simple, easy changes to manufactured clothes to suit your individual style, and
- contriving an original outfit.
In these ways, you, too, can dress uniquely and inexpensively!
Anybody with me out there? Why spend 10 x more to have 10 x less! All it takes is just a little creativity to be your own designer!
This is what this blog-site is all about!
I hope to inspire you to create your own style.
Ditch ordinary and rise to your potential!
People wrongly refer to style and fashion interchangeably. Though style is related to fashion, the two are totally different.
I’ve heard the difference defined this way—and I agree:
- Fashion is “what’s out there;” it’s what is dictated to us as the latest way to dress by whomever directs the fashion scene.
- Style is “what’s in there.” It’s your own personal style, manifesting in the clothes you wear, in the outfits you put together. Your own style is the expression of who you are. It’s about you—your sense of self, your identity, your perception of who you are.
For many years, I shyly followed along, wearing conventional attire, just fitting in with everybody else—afraid to strike out in my own direction, away from the crowd.
Then, it occurred to me:
Who cares if people look at me weird.
Why should I worry about what others think? This is my life, by golly!
What harm will it do to dress the way I wanna dress?! …as long as how I dress or what I do isn’t offensive to God who lives in this body—and, as He indeed lives in me, then I wouldn’t want to intentionally offend Him, now would I?
He made each of us individually to be individuals. He put within each of us our own set of dreams and desires. Not one of us is the same!! (That blows me away!) Those who enjoy being creative and different—well, He put that in us, too! So, fulfill being the person you were made to be!
Style icon, Iris Apfel—I love this woman!—says, “Fashion you can buy, but style you possess.
“The key to style is learning who you are, which takes years. There’s no how-to road map to style. It’s about self-expression and, above all, attitude.”

My featured outfit in this tut is made up of many pieces. I remember someone complimenting me on another of my outfits and, with a quizzical expression, asked, “Where’d you find that?” Lol! As if it came from the store already assembled for the wearer!! No… It’s called ingenuity!! 😀
Unlike others who go to the store to buy a ready-made outfit or a dress, when you create your own look, you become the designer! 😀 We are all created in the likeness of our Father…our Father is Creator, so, we are creators! We all have that tendency to create, in some manner. I want to stir your creative juices. 😀

Tip:
Have a plain hat?
Use a beaded necklace and pin it in place for a temporary hat band, or use a scarf or belt as seen in my tips on ornamenting hats. Or, for ideas on permanently embellishing hats, see my sunflower hat and Victorian Rose hat tutorials.
In mixing prints, color is the key. Matching shades of colors is usually vital…howev, fashion rules are meant to be broken! Lol! I have seen instances of using colors and patterns together that actually looked good even though you would’ve thought they wouldn’t have. Use your style sense!
I like to layer skirts. I also like to change up a straight hemline by tying a knot at the bottom of the skirt to create more interest.
