Here are a few tips to get you moving in the direction of creating your own unique look that says, This is me!

What Do You Love about Dressing for Summer?

Summers in Florida are typically very hot and humid—even so, I love summers. Howev, some days are insufferable! The saving grace of Florida’s summers are afternoon thunderstorms.

When the clouds start accumulating and getting dark, and drops of precipitation begin to pepper down, we know that, soon, the temps will drop 10 to 15 degrees—in a matter of minutes.

But, then, if the sun comes out right away,

it’s a steam bath!! It’s better if the clouds stay for a while.

So, here, in the Sunshine State, we go into survival mode in the summer when it comes to dressing as comfortably as possible.

Only thing is: When you’re dressed for summer and you go into air conditioning… whoa! is it cold!! (We keep our house cool, but not cold.)

In that case, we need to take along a wrap.

Many in Florida seem to live in t-shirts, shorts, and flip-flops.

But, I’ve gotta have my style— even when it’s hot!

In my opinion, summer isn’t summer without:

  • sleeveless, collarless cotton tops,
  • jeans,
  • thin cotton maxi skirts,
  • sandals—or, cowboy boots,
  • hats, and
  • sometimes, a wrap.

My shorts I reserve for home.

This list may not sound particularly bohemian, but it’s what you do with those things that brings style to summer.

It’s true, that it’s really too hot for much layering, which is a very bohemian thing to do.

(But, you can throw on a light vest, or, wear a couple of thin skirts together.)

Howev:

  • you can paint a summer top…

Yep! I said paint! Just get out your handy-dandy craft paints, create your art on your white cotton top, and, after it’s all dry, iron it to heat-set it!

  1. Twist your item;
  2. put rubber bands all along the length of it;
  3. immerse it in your prepared dye bath, which is in a large pot on the stove burner on low;
  4. let it “cure” for a few minutes, while you stir the dye;
  5. Carefully, remove it, using gloves;
  6. Spray it with Rit Color Stay before rinsing;
  7. Rinse it in the sink till the water is clear.
